Digitization

Our digitization method focuses on capturing the most accurate and neutral preservation master transfers, meaning a digital copy as close to the quality and sound of the original source as possible, in a digital format that meets archival standards.

We are equipped to handle a range of grooved and magnetic media formats including: 

  • Records with playback speeds from 16rpm to 90rpm including Lacquer discs

    • We use a Technics SL12000MK7 turntable fitted with both a stock tone arm and a seconday Audio Technica ATP-12T

    • We use a range of phono cartridges and styli, with our work horse being two Shure M44G cartridges fitted with both Elipticle and Conicle truncated styli custom made by Expert Stylus in the UK.

    • Our Phono Preamp is a state of the art VAD LYD MD12 MK4 allowing for transfer of both flat and period appropriate EQ emphasis.

  • Micro and standard cassette tapes

    • Our primary machine for cassette transfer is a 3 head Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1 with adjustable azimuth, serviced and maintained by the folks at Aztech Electronics.

    • We use a modified Sony M-2000 for micro cassette transfers.

  • ¼” open reel tapes

    • Our primary machine for 1/4” open reel transfers is a Revox A-77
