Restoration

Our restoration and remastering philosophy is based on the idea that a recording is a historical document and should not pretend to be something that it is not.

In many ways, the identification and classification of “noise” as unwanted is something that is far more of a gray area than it may seem at first glance. At the end of the day, we aim to serve the musical intention and historical accuracy of audio materials by:

  • Recognizing that each recording deserves its own treatment based on its particular character, history, and the intended use of its digital surrogate.

  • Working to reduce aggressive levels of hiss, clicks, pops, rumbles, and other acoustic distortions that were never intended, but may be caused by physical damage to the tape or disc.

  • Providing subtle and precise restoration, which creates material ideal for researchers and casual listeners alike.

  • Preserving the history of a recording while still creating a remastered file that is suitable for commercial release. This level of restoration involves noise reduction and reconstructive techniques that reduce defects in the original format, to better showcase the audio content itself.

With state-of-the-art software and high-quality transfers as our foundation, we can achieve a level of restoration and remastering tailored to the context and intended use of your recordings.
