Who we are

  • Brightwood Audio is a company working to help preserve and present cultural content held on a range of vulnerable media formats in the collections of small to midsize institutions, organizations, and individuals. Brightwood Audio is run by Jesse Kenas Collins, a musician and archivist with over a decade of experience working in collections handling and care at museums and institutions across New England.

 What we do

  • We provide digitization, restoration, assessment, and maintenance of audio holdings on a range of at-risk analog and born-digital media formats. We work with everything from records (like early shellac 78s, 45rpm discs, and lacquer discs) to cassette and open reel tapes, as well as born-digital media formats. Whatever the format, we help our clients develop long-term plans for reformatting, presenting, storing, and maintaining their collections.

How we do it

  • We provide on-site collection assessment and consultation, with digitization work carried out in our Worcester-based studio, as well as hybrid or onsite work for clients with access to suitable equipment. We work with our clients to find a pricing model that works for them and can arrange contracts based on an hourly rate or on a per-project basis, depending on project scope and funding source. We can also work with you to help find grant funding for your projects.

Who we serve

  • Our clients cover a range of cultural heritage institutions and other non-profits (like museums, libraries, historical societies, cultural centers, or churches) as well as private individuals (who are collectors, musicians, or hold family archives) and commercial operations such as independent record labels and producers.
